Batteries

With that subject line it may be clear that I’m single. Anyhow, I ALWAYS have batteries. I buy them in bulk. My trips to Home Depot usually end with grabbing another bulk package of AA’s. This overstock issue came in handy recently.

At 2:30 in the morning, my  upstairs hallway smoke detector beeped.  I jumped out of bed.  Then it beeped again. When I say beeped the second time, I mean it SCREAMED a solid high pitched piercing sound with no break. As you’d expect, I ran downstairs and opened my battery drawer where I found two 9V batteries. Lucky for me I have a 70 pound solid wood chopping block in my kitchen that makes for the perfect step ladder. Sure I lugged this piece up a flight of stairs. No problem, I’ve been working out. And who doesn’t want to flex at 2:30 in the morning. Problem solved. Sound stopped.

Smoke detectors are a necessity. I have 7 in my home. But why in the hell do they only make noise in the middle of the night?!?! Seriously, I want to know.

However, what bothered me most…I only had two 9V batteries. Today I went to the grocery store and bought 12 more.

Hmm… Got all excited when I read the heading. Seems I buy batteries in bulk for another reason (9V would scare me though, most of mine take AA)… either that, or you’re just not being completely honest about bulk battery buying ;~)

    Luv Ya!

Maybe I was too vague. When I check out at Home Depot with my enormous package (odd wording – hehehe) of batteries, I always ask the clerk if it’s obvious they aren’t for flashlights. :)

Silly girl. Your supposed to change your smoke detector batteries 2x per year. Once at each time change in the fall and spring. May negate the 2am heart attack next time. :)

I know. I know. However please note what I saved on batteries (for the smoke detector only) during the 2 year hiatus from that chore. :-)

I buy batteries in bulk, too! It’s amazing with all these gadgets that we have now that our LIVES depend on batteries so much!

@T, Sadly, even if I gave up all the smoke detectors and remotes in my house, I’d still need to buy batteries in bulk! :)
