When Costumes are Real
By Susan Mercedes. Filed in Life |Sitting in a bar the other night I saw quite a sight. A couple walked in. The were dressed identical. They were with a group of people yet managed to be the only twinned duo.
And if dressing alike wasn’t silly enough, they opted to wear white pants, pink polo shirts and white sweaters tied tightly around their necks. The looked like they walked out of a country club in the Hamptons back in the 80’s.
And the only reason I noticed them, since they sat right behind me, was the reactions from all the people I was facing. I actually saw camera phones casually snapping shots. So I joined them with a little over the shoulder action.

I’m sure these people are lovely and kind. But after the age of 12, dressing alike looks more like a costume. And that doesn’t work unless it’s October 31st.

To me it looks like the walked out a commercial for Kotex or Tampax.

Ah, the memories just came flooding back. I’m pretty sure he ordered a wine spritzer.

Ha! That’s funny….
When I was a kid we had neighbors whose parents wore matching shirts every Saturday. I don’t know why it was Saturday. Reminds me though, now that you mention odd things couples do….my sister saw a twenty-something couple at Lagoon the other day and while they were standing in line, the girl was sucking on the guys thumb. Weird. And gross.

Amberly: That is completely weird. I have standards when I’m one half of a couple. And dressing alike or sucking on THUMBS are not part of it.

I’m convinced that was some kind of street theater. There’s just no way …

Erin: If it was a costume, don’t you think they would have played it up? They didn’t. They tried to act normal. They weren’t.
