Wino Wednesday: I Need Help

This Wino Wednesday post was uninspired by my wine drinking. Or lack of wine drinking.

It’s a sad day for me. I haven’t been enjoying wine like I once was. Maybe I’m getting tired of my house pour. Most of you know that I buy Alice White Chardonnay by the case. It’s cheap. It’s simple. It’s easy to drink. And by easy to drink I mean it’s easy to gulp and get wasted.

I’m thinking that my interest in wine needs to be rejuvenated. I have an idea. And I need my readers to help me. Mostly because you are the best ones out there.

  • You name the wine. I’ll get a bottle. I’ll drink it. I’ll enjoy a crazy night. I’ll blog about it.
  • Or better yet…you name the wine. Send me a bottle. I’ll drink it. I’ll enjoy a crazy night. I’ll blog about it.
  • Or best option…you name the wine. Bring a bottle to me. We drink it together. Probably best if you bring two bottles since I’m being forced to share. I’ll enjoy watching you have a crazy night (read: make a fool of yourself). I’ll blog about it.

Deal? Who’s in?

Rules: Please use the comment section to make suggestions and let me know which option above you want to do. I prefer wine for this activity, however all drink options are opened. Those are the only rules mostly because I hate rules.

Wino Wednesday…this weekly feature is designed to share my wine related stories.

I really like Blue Nun, it’s a German wine and very delicious. Also some of the blends I’ve had letely have been great like a Merlot Shiraz blend. I can’t remember specific names, but I can find the bottle based on the pretty colors on it’s label. I enjoy wine, but since I’m not a connoisseur, this is the best I can come up with… oh and Littel Penguin shiraz or merlot are both good.

I’m in, and I chose option 3. My wine choices will likely take you to Argentina, Chile or Australia, and they’ll all be reds.
Like Mr Shua though, most of my choices are based on the label, and it will never ever be a straight up Shiraz.

@amyknapp: I love shopping for wines by the label. Option 3 is my favorite option. Yay for time together. Remember last time you came over…I blogged about it. And we laughed a lot.

Bought a Cupcake Vineyards 2007 Chardonnay based recommendations in the latest Wine Spectator. Rated 88, ~$12 and so very delicious! http://winecentric.blogspot.com/2009/06/cupcake-central-coast-chardonnay-2007.html

I vote you come to San Diego and we rent a limo and go on a wine tour in Temecula. Not only do you get to sample a gazillion types of wine, you get to keep the wine glass at each vineyard.

Kel: I love that idea! I never took advantage of Temecula when I lived in San Diego. Back then I would have preferred a tour of breweries…starting with Keystone Light.

I know you like Chards so I’ll recommend Gnarlyhead. The liquor store has it on sale this month (under $10) and I have a couple of bottles. When I’m back from NYC we’ll drink them.

I know you like the white wine, but a Malbec (Argentine) wine is amazing! In fact, I just bought a bottle. Wine and TV night here we come!

Summer: I love red wine actually. I just drink a lot of white wine out of habit. Yay for wine & TV night!

I second the comment on the Argentinian Malbec’s.

However, if you want to have a wonderful wine, treat yourself (sorry, I can’t afford to send you one) to a bottle of Italian Amarone. These are pretty expensive wines, you can get the cheapest one here in Utah for about 39 bucks. I prefer the slightly more expensive Tenuto D’ Santi and I think it’s like 50 bucks. Eat something like red meat with it, this is a big wine and wants a big dinner.

wickenden: I may splurge for the Tenuto D’ Santi. Justification: it’s an investment in my blog and in my taste buds. Thanks.

Ever heard of this stuff called ‘Sparkling Cider’? It’s delicious. Oh, and totally alcohol free. Talk about fun! ^_^

MooKooJoe: Martinelli’s 2009 is a great find! But after a bottle of that my post would be boring. It wouldn’t be long before I crashed from the sugar high. ;)

Boone’s Farm. I think Wine Spectator gave it a score of 92. But you really must drink it EXTREMELY chiiled. Enjoy.

Do you have Trader Joe’s by you? If so, I have many a suggestion.

Becky: No Trader Joe’s by me damn it! I always found great treasures there when I lived in California. I miss it.
