Innocence is Adorable
Elle (my 10 year old) was telling me about what she did while hanging out at a friend’s house. There were several kids there, all in Elle’s 5th grade class. Unrelated to this story, but kind of cute…I suspect Elle has a crush on one of the boys in the group.
Elle said, “We were all just talking and hanging out in Dan’s room.”
My jaw dropped. “Elle! You are not supposed to hang out in a boy’s room!”
She was quick to respond, “Mom, don’t worry. It was clean.”
God, I love that kid. She is so very innocent.
I wonder if she’s mine.
Cute When You’re 10
Elle (my daughter) and I were enjoying our regular dinner together. Surprise, surprise we went to Porcupine Pub (our local pub) again. We end up there several times each week. Partly because I can’t cook. Partly because Elle doesn’t cook much either. Yeah, she’s 10. I’m just lame.
I love when I walk into the restaurant and the staff greets me and the hostess always know where I want to sit. We even get the “loyal customer” discount on our bill every time. It makes all sorts of sense on why we go there so often.
On this particular evening, we were minding our own business when suddenly Elle squealed and ducked underneath the table. It may be important to share that she does have good manners. She was brought up dining out. This behavior took me by surprise. When I calmly asked her to get her butt back onto the seat, she had a chance to explain.
Me: Elle, what is going on?
Elle: Oh my god mom, Logan is here.
Me: Who is Logan?
Elle: My boyfriend at school.
Me: Does he know he’s your boyfriend?
Elle: Duh. Yes. Someone told him I liked him.
She spent the rest of the meal staring towards his table. Every time he glanced our direction, she’d slide down on her seat.
I offered to go introduce myself to Logan’s table. Elle would rather have died than have me do that. It’s clear. My little girl is grown up now. Her total boy crazy crush was proof. The fact that she was embarrassed by me was a little heartbreaking. I was thinking I was the cool mom. Guess not.
Regardless, I couldn’t help but smile. When can you have a crush on someone, behave like that and others will still think it’s cute? When you’re 10!
Do you remember your childhood crush? I do. He’s on my Facebook page now. And his wife is hot.
