This one didn’t. Dumb Asian inspired non stretchy material.

Super cute outfit though so I’m forced to suffer next time I wear this.

My kid, Elle, had a recipe she wanted to make. As most of you know recipes make me nervous. It usually involves a kitchen and shit. After learning there was no flame/heat required (read: I’m too lazy to help), I figured she could do it on her own. She is 10 and all.

She wanted to make playdough:

1 part flour
1/2 part water
1/2 part salt

Recipe calls for food coloring, which I conveniently don’t have. Hell I didn’t want a kid with purple stained fingers. Or a purple stained face!

Here’s what she created. The playdough and the faces. Coincidentally, they describe me over the last few days.

Yesterday was crazy. My face kind of looked like this.

But today it’s Friday and I’m starting it out right.

What would your playdough face look like today?

Sitting in a bar the other night I saw quite a sight. A couple walked in. The were dressed identical. They were with a group of people yet managed to be the only twinned duo.

And if dressing alike wasn’t silly enough, they opted to wear white pants, pink polo shirts and white sweaters tied tightly around their necks. The looked like they walked out of a country club in the Hamptons back in the 80’s.

And the only reason I noticed them, since they sat right behind me, was the reactions from all the people I was facing. I actually saw camera phones casually snapping shots. So I joined them with a little over the shoulder action.

I’m sure these people are lovely and kind. But after the age of 12, dressing alike looks more like a costume. And that doesn’t work unless it’s October 31st.

On my trip to California last weekend, the main event was a day at the races. Specifically, the Del Mar horse races. We had a table reserved for lunch and drinks up at the Turf Club. Sounds fancy, huh? Yep, there was a stinking dress code. But the food was fabulous and the drinks were flowing nonstop. Vodka sodas with lemon taste divine when you’re feeling the warm breeze off the California coast.

My memories of a day at the races when I lived in Del Mar 15 years ago involved tank tops, shorts, and beers out in the hot sun.

This experience was definitely different this year. And different was good. The day was nearly perfect. Mainly because I spent with my dear friends from college. Cat is in the green, Suz in the yellow, Tami in the black shirt and I’m in the strapless colorful dress. Here are some pictures to prove the smiles were real…

I spent the day betting on horses. And I picked them solely on their names. Kind of like buying wine based on how cute the label is. Yes, I do that too.

With wine…I can get buzzed from cute labels. With horses…I can win based on cute names. It was proven. I won.

I’ve learned that if you pick them cute, you will come out ahead. Or at least buzzed.

They were super cute. And one of them had an adorable (= small) rack.

Awww. This stuff tugs at my heart strings.
